What a fun night of dirt track racing!! Justin and I are both big fans of Nascar racing, and when Justin found out that a bunch of the Nextel drivers were going to be racing at Eldora Speedway, he bought us tickets and said we had to go! Eldora Speedway is owned by Nascar driver Tony Stewart, and the premise of the night is that he brings in all his racing buddies for a night of dirt track racing to raise money for the Victory Junction Gang, which is Kyle Petty's charity for sick kids. (Kinda like Make a Wish foundation) So at 2:30 in the afternoon, we loaded our cooler and chairs and drove 2 hours to Ohio (Justin's first time to Ohio!!) to this racetrack that is out in the middle of no-where!
The night started with racing by the regulars at this track, and let me tell you....boy does the dirt blow!! I had to purchase some HOT! yellow protection glasses to keep the dirt out of my eyes! The Nextel boys then got ready to race, and it was fun to see Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch, and a bunch of other famous drivers. Nascar fans sure are the nicest people, the people around us shared their food and drinks with us, and we did the same. At the end of the night, it turned cold, and I borrowed a sweatshirt from the old man sitting next to us. What a great time we had!
Carl Edwards ended up winning the race, and did his signature back flip in Victory Lane. The racing ended around 11pm, but we sat in traffic getting out of the parking lot till Midnight. We got home around 2am, and when we looked in the mirror, noted how covered in dirt we were!! We had so much fun, and I'm glad we got to go together! We're just road tripping all over the US! Who knows where we'll go next!
Told you it was dusty!!! Note all the fans! 23,000 of our closest friends!
Justin is now officially done with school, and home for the summer!! YAY!!! The honey-do list is long, and we both can't wait to work on our house! Look for a house warming party to happen around August!!
